Am Anfang stand die Maske als Ausdrucksmittel des Menschen in seinem Wunsch, seine Realität zu transzendieren und damit Macht über seine Umwelt  zu gewinnen. Aus den Riten der Frühzeit und den Kulturen der Vorzeit entstanden Theater und bildende Kunst. Die Maske ist nicht nur die Larve, die das Gesicht verbirgt, sondern bezieht den ganzen Körper mit ein, beeinflußt  die Bewegung und den sprachlichen Ausdruck. Am Schnittpunkt von bildender und darstellender Kunst steht die Theaterfigur - die Puppe. In all ihren Ausprägungen als Schattenfigur, Handpuppe, Stabfigur oder Marionette ist sie im Kern nichts anderes als eine weitergehende Abstrahierung der Idee der Ganzkörpermaske. Die Ablösung der Maske von ihrem Träger schafft Distanz und Autonomie. Puppets on demand beschäftigt sich  künstlerisch mit dem Mediem Maske und Figurentheater im Rahmen von eigenen Projekten und Produktionen.	At the beginning there was the mask as a mean of expression.  Human beings were attempting to transcend their living reality and to gain power over their environment.  From the rites and rituals of early times and early cultures, theater and visual arts developed. A mask is not only something which hides the face; it also involves the whole body, influencing the body’s movement and stylistic expression. At the point of intersection of visual and dramatic arts you will find the puppet.  In all its appearances, as a shadow puppet, hand puppet, rod puppet or stringpuppet, the puppet in its essence is nothing more than an advanced abstraction of the idea of a whole body mask.  The separation of the mask from its performer creates distance as well as self-determination. Puppets on demand is concerned with masks and puppets, including its own projects and productions.
