Amy L. Weinstein teaches students while a school group visiting the garden show looks on.	Im Atelier des Bildhauers Sebastian Roser wurden während der Gartenschau in Cham 2001 zwei Seminare zum Bau und Spiel von Stabfiguren angeboten. Das Angebot richteten sich in erster Linie an professionelle Puppenspieler, aber auch an Schulspielgruppen und Studierende der künstlerischen Fächer, bildende Kunst, Lehramt und Theater. Two exciting Puppetry Workshops were happening this summer in Bavaria, Germany. As part of the „Natur in der Stadt Cham 20001“ (Cham Garden Show 2001), sculptor Sebastian Roser offered two workshops for building and performing rod puppets. These workshops have been specifically geared for professional puppeteers, actors/theater professionals, visual artists and visual arts students as well as teachers of all kinds of arts.
Während des dreiwöchigen Seminars hatte jeder Teilnehmer eine Stabfigur herzustellen, wie sie für die Gartenschau als Moderator der Ausstellung eingesetzt wurde. Die Spieltechnik wurde anhand dieser Puppe während der gesamten Seminarzeit im Gelände der Gartenschau gelehrt und eingeübt. Each workshop has lasted three weeks and the participants had to build a rod puppet in the style of "Michl", the puppet which was performed throughout the Cham Garden Show. „Michl“ was an official presenter and moderator of the show and several Michls were performing in different areas of the Garden Show, interacting with the viewers as well as pointing them to the various areas of the Garden Show. Old Lady – made by Aya Kanai	Die plastischen Teile der Figur werden mit der von Prof. Albrecht Roser entwickelten Papier- schnittmethode hergestellt, ein Verfahren, das es erlaubt, mit einfachsten Mitteln und Materialien sehr wirkungsvolle Figuren herzustellen. The sculpted parts of the puppet was done by the papercut or paper sculpture method, which was developed by Professor Albrecht Roser. This type of sculpture permits artists of all levels to form with simple means very impressive sculptures. The interior construction and control of the puppet were patterned after that of the puppet "Michl". This is a control which allows an incredible range of movement and expression but aims to be lightweight and accessible to those without a degree in engineering!
Trainiert wurde der Kontakt mit dem Publikum, aber auch das pantomimische Spiel und das Spiel und der Dialog der Figuren miteinander. Ziel dieser Ausbildung war, durch die Herstellung und das Spiel mit dieser Art von Stabfigur die Ausdruckmöglichkeiten dieser Puppenart intensiv kennen- und szenisch einsetzen zu lernen. Rehearsal and performance techniques have been important components of each workshop. Besides learning „Movement Techniques, Exercises and Ideas for the Puppeteer“ and participating in „Group Puppet Dynamics“, each participant had actually to perform one of the „Michl“ puppets for the audiences at the Garden Show.
